One

In March 1833, the Americans formed a cavalry regiment stationed at the US-Mexico border. Three years later, the unit was named the 1st US Dragoon regiment.

The dragoons were still in the infantry unit. They were armed with short-barreled large-caliber muskets and cold weapons. They were able to mount and slash or dismount and shoot. They were often responsible for tasks such as guarding and grabbing fortresses. They did not participate in the cavalry charge. This was in 1861. The unit was changed to the 1st Cavalry Regiment of the United States. It successively participated in the Battle of Bullen, the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Gettysburg, the Battle of Manghara, and the Battle of Appomattox. In September 1921, the unit was in Fort Bliss, Texas. It was renamed the 1st Cavalry Division and was still in charge of border patrols.

After the outbreak of World War II in 1943, the 1st Cavalry Division first trained in Australia for half a year. At the end of February 1944, it went to the battlefield, mainly engaged in the Pacific area with the Japanese army, and first completed the amphibious landing of the Admiralty Islands. After the war, he performed prominently in the battles against Clayte Island, Luzon Island, and Manila. It was the vanguard of the army, and it was almost invincible.

Because of its great achievements and never had a defeat, the 1st Cavalry Division became the trump card of the American army, claiming to have no defeat in 160 years.

This undefeated record lasted until November 1950, when he encountered the 39th Army of the Chinese People’s Volunteers.

Then, there is.

Two

After the end of World War II, the United States realized that it could not coexist with the Soviet Union. In 1946, George Kenan issued the famous telegram, which analyzed the national character of Russia, the contradiction between socialism and capitalism, and proposed to contain the Soviet Union. The following year Kenan was promoted to work in the State Department, and later promoted the establishment of the CIA and the Marshall Plan, and became the father of the United States’ containment strategy. It was clear that he had to “implement a long-term, patient and firm containment policy” against the Soviet Union.

Since then, the United States and the Soviet Union have become mortal enemies to each other. The United States sent troops to North Korea and Vietnam after World War II to contain the expansion of the Soviet Union.

After World War II, the Korean peninsula was divided into two halves. Kim Il-sung always wanted to unify the peninsula. Stalin originally disagreed and did not want to go directly with the United States. However, on January 26, 1950, China submitted to the Soviet side to take back Lushunkou and Dalian. The draft agreement between Hong Kong and the Central and Long Road calls for the recovery of all sovereignty in the Northeast within two years. Stalin sent a telegram to North Korea on the 30th, agreeing to Kim Il Sung take the Korean Peninsula.

Stalin was cautious, and he must have done so deliberately. If Kim Il Sung wins, he can find a new outlet for the Soviet Union on the peninsula. If Kim Il Sung loses, the garrison on the Yalu River will give the Soviet Union a chance. The army is stationed in northeast China and continues to control Lushun and Dalian.

In order to prevent the Northeast from falling into the fate of being contested by the United States and the Soviet Union, and to defend the fruits of China’s revolution and prevent the flames of war from burning to its homeland, at the same time, for the socialist alliance, China had to resist the United States and aid Korea.

When Japan colonized Korea, it placed all its industries in the north, where the minerals were concentrated, and the south was positioned as an agricultural area. Therefore, when Kim Il Sung attacked the south on June 25, he used industrial areas to fight agricultural areas. The number of artillery and aircraft far exceeded that of South Korea, and the number of troops was twice that of South Korea. It almost took the entire peninsula. However, on September 15th, the U.S. troops landed from Incheon, and it took only one month to push back. Conquered Pyongyang on the 19th.

On the third day of the war in South Korea, the US military sent warships to blockade the Taiwan Strait. On October 8, Kim Il-sung urgently asked us for assistance. After careful consideration, the Chinese leader decided to resist the US and aid Korea.

On October 19, the first batch of 12 divisions of the Chinese People’s Volunteers went to North Korea to participate in the war, and the vigorous War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea officially started.

Three

According to General Liu Zhenhua’s recollection, the first battle to resist US aggression and aid Korea took place on October 25.

He was 28 years old at the time. He was the director of the Political Department of the 118th Division of the 40th Army. The troops crossed the Yalu River Bridge on the evening of the 19th. In order to prevent air raids, they traveled around the clock and the radio stopped. On the evening of the 24th, he learned that he would encounter an enemy army, Arrived at Wenjing position before 4 a.m. the next day, received a call from regiment leader Chu Chuanyu at 10 a.m. The 3rd Battalion, 2nd Regiment, 6th Division of South Korean Army, and an artillery squadron entered the ambush. Commander Deng Yue ordered an attack. More than 30 vehicles The formed convoy was cut into three sections, and a battalion and artillery squadron were all wiped out in more than two hours.

Since then, October 25th, it was designated as the anniversary of the war to resist US aggression and aid Korea.

The combat effectiveness of the South Korean Army is simply vulnerable. The “White Tiger Regiment”, known as the first honorary division in South Korea, was blown to the sky in Korean dramas. During the Battle of Jincheng, it was infiltrated and roundabout by the 203 Division of the 68th Army of the Volunteer Army. It was almost completely wiped out in two days. Volunteer soldiers dressed in Korean army costumes, pretending that the U.S. military advisers easily touched their Ercheongdong command post, 12 people surrounded more than 100 people, and the battle ended in ten minutes. They also handed over their tiger-head flag. The flag is still in the collection of the Chinese People’s Military Museum.

During the entire period of resistance to U.S. aggression and aid to Korea, the South Korean army had no sense of presence and was almost negligible. In our eyes, only the world’s strongest U.S. army was at that time.

At this time, the 38th, 39th, 40th, and 42nd Army of the Volunteers concealed their entry into the DPRK, followed by other troops. By the beginning of November, there were about 300,000 people. The “United Nations Army” had 230,000 ground troops. The two sides are not in the same era in terms of equipment.

Before starting to talk about the head-on confrontation with the US military, we must first understand the huge power gap between the two sides, and then we can know how great the Chinese People’s Volunteers have achieved.

Each US infantry division is equipped with 355 artillery, including 18 artillery, 71 heavy artillery, 4 howitzers, 22 mortars, anti-aircraft guns, bazookas, etc. In addition, there is only 12 mountain artillery in a division of our army.

The US military has 1,600 radio stations in one division, and only dozens of radio stations in one corps.

The U.S. Army has thousands of vehicles, but ours only has about 45 vehicles.

The US military has another 1,200 aircraft, mainly F80, F84, F86A, pilots have more than 1,000 hours of flying experience, more than 300 ships (including aircraft carriers, cruisers, battleships, destroyers, etc.), more than 1,000 tanks, and 330 armored vehicles.

The Volunteer Army has fewer than 300 aircraft, mainly MiG-15s, and our pilots rarely have 100 hours of flight training.

The artillery of a volunteer army is less than half of the artillery of a US division. Their artillery has a large caliber, long-range, and sufficient ammunition. Its anti-aircraft guns can hit more than 20 kilometers at a distance. The Kuomintang army captured it with a small caliber and a short-range. It could only hit 10 kilometers at the farthest. Moreover, our armament factory is still in the construction stage, and ammunition is scarce. Each artillery can only be assigned twenty shells.

In the extremely cold weather, two-thirds of the shells fired by the mortar turned into duds.

The US infantry’s guns are mostly automatic or semi-automatic. The main force is the M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle, M1, M2, M3 carbine, M3 submachine gun, Browning M1917A1 water-cooled heavy machine gun, etc. The early volunteers mainly used the official rifle, 38 Type rifles, Thomson submachine guns, Springfield rifles, etc., and later received the Soviet Mosin Nagan rifle, Bobosha submachine gun, DP light machine gun, and Guoliunov SG43 heavy machine gun.

In terms of logistics, the U.S. military has allotted woolen clothes, hooded winter clothes, rain-proof mountaineering suits, duck-down sleeping bags, outerwear made of special cold-proof and rain-proof fabrics, and boots made of multi-layer felt pads.

In the early days of the Volunteer Army, there was a severe shortage of cold-proof clothing. The 9th Corps had only one or two quilts for more than ten people in each squad. A dozen crowded together to keep warm at night. On the first day of entering the Korean Empire, 800 people were frostbitten. , Said that except for the cotton-padded clothes, cotton hats, cotton shoes, etc. have not been supplemented. In early November, the 20th army only received cotton rubber shoes and cloth cotton hats.

The difference in eating is even greater. The U.S. military eats picnics that can be eaten without heating. Dozens of tricks are refurbished. There is also chocolate, chewing gum, cigarettes, etc., and you can even eat turkey on Thanksgiving. Volunteer soldiers can only eat fried noodles and potatoes.

Volunteer soldiers eating potatoes

US Army eating turkey

The most commonly eaten fried noodles are not the noodles we often say, but they are ground and fried with 70% wheat, 30% soybeans, sorghum or corn, and a bit of salt. It tastes very dry, so I often hear ” In such cold weather, eating potatoes and fried noodles are prone to enteritis and dysentery.

According to the memories of volunteer army veterans, in the weather of tens of degrees below zero, potatoes had to be gnawed layer by layer after warming their armpits. The frozen potatoes were bitter and hard, and everyone didn’t like it. After the last meal, everyone prefers to eat fried noodles, but the fried noodles must be eaten with water, or it is choking and choking, and there is no way to swallow it.

Can you capture the enemy if you don’t eat, wear, or weapons?

Very very difficult.

At the beginning of the war with the Kuomintang army, our army seized a lot of supplies, so President Jiang was often called the “captain of the transportation brigade”, but the situation was completely different from the US army. In the second battle, we seized thousands of vehicles at once. And a large number of equipment and materials, as a result, the United States dispatched a large number of aircraft within a few hours, blowing up all the vehicles.

The lack of air supremacy is the biggest source of the volunteers’ plight in North Korea. It made our operations in North Korea extremely passive. After the first battle, the Volunteer Army had only 1,000 vehicles in total, but more than 600 vehicles were blown up by the US airstrikes. Volunteers were missing. The lack of food and clothing is mainly due to the inability to transport supplies. Seeing the soldiers suffering on the front lines, we also wanted to transport the eggs, but each time it was blown up by the US military.

Also because of the lack of air supremacy, we can only hide in the daytime and sneak offensively at night. The special method of attacking the US military has a lifetime of psychological shadow, forcing the US military to strengthen the research of night vision and mobile warfare after the end of the war.

At that time, the Volunteer Army was backward in all respects in the face of the world’s number one U.S. military. Regardless of its equipment, logistics, and air supremacy, it was to build the world’s most advanced industrial country on the basis of an agricultural country. asphyxia.

He looked like a thin 17-year-old boy with only a dagger in his hand, but he had to face a strong man with two hundred kilograms, full-body armor, and a big knife in his hand. It seemed that he had no chance of winning at all.

However, in our first battle with the US Army, the weak enemy was strong, and the 1st US Cavalry Division, known as the 160-year undefeated US Cavalry Division, fought with its head.

Four

After the 118th Division beat the South Korean army, the 120th Division took the victory that night and captured Onjeong. On October 28, the 338th Regiment of the 113th Division and the 337th Regiment of the 38th Army in the east exchanged fire with the enemy in Heecheon and attacked Heecheon on the 29th. It was discovered that the main enemy force had fled after hearing the fiasco of Onjing, and even the telephone line of the command agency had not had time to withdraw.

On the 29th, the 39th Volunteer Army also surrounded the South Korean 1st Division on three sides north of Unsan. The U.S. 8th Army Lieutenant General Walker hurriedly ordered the 1st Cavalry Division to change defenses from Pyongyang and asked to garrison Unsan to prevent our army from taking it. After Yunshan, head westward, splitting the 8th Army of the “United Nations Army” in half.

President Peng also took a fancy to Yunshan’s strategic position and demanded that the 39th Army must take Yunshan.

The 39th Army is a strong force of our army, formerly the Red 25th Army once participated in the Pingxingguan Great Victory, and was also an elite of the four fields. During the Liberation War, it fought from the northeast to the southwest. It has rich combat experience and is also our army’s trump card.

On the evening of October 31, the US 1st Cavalry Division and our 39th Army met in Yunshan, and the trump card battle started.

However, in the early days of the war, our army thought it was fighting the South Korean First Division, while the US military knew that they would encounter the Chinese army based on the judgment of the commander of the South Korean First Division Bai Shanye, but they did not take the volunteers into consideration at all.

After all, they often deal with the Kuomintang, thinking that the strength of the Kuomintang army is the strength of the Chinese army.

At five o’clock in the afternoon, the 3 regiments of South Korea and the 3 battalions of the 8th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division of the US Army changed their defenses.

When the South Korean soldiers saw the volunteers rushing over, they scattered like sheep and threw the 1st Battalion of the US 8th Cavalry Regiment on the front line. The Americans were stunned.

Wang Fuzhi’s 343 regiments cut off the road from Longxingdong to Yunshan. The U.S. army was shocked. The 5th cavalry regiment was rushed to seize the bridge but was beaten to escape by our army. The 8th Cavalry regiment hurriedly fled, and the volunteers attacked across the board. , Within a few hours, the U.S. troops broke up the outskirts of Yunshan. Only then did the volunteers discover that they were fighting the U.S. trump card 1st Cavalry Division. The 39th Army Commander Wu Xinquan shouted excitedly:

“Ace? I’m playing an ace!”

The soldiers also screamed with excitement:

“Lao Tzu is the trump card for his father, the trump card for fighting Gou Day!”

At the moment when the diplomatic fire in Yunshan City was fierce, the Volunteer Army’s 346th Regiment 4 Junction interspersed into Yunshan City. Company Commander Wang Zhenbin led three platoons along the river bed to Yunshan, and encountered the 3rd Battalion of the US 8th Cavalry Regiment on the highway. The U.S. Army mistakenly thought that they were the South Korean Army, and shook hands with them. The 4th company commander entered the city. Suddenly blew the bugle at the U.S. barracks, opened fire indiscriminately, threw grenades, and explosives at the camp. Germany was killed, and the 39th Army took the opportunity to rush into Yunshan City to start close combat. The superior firepower of the US army could not be used, and Palma, the commander of the 8th Cavalry Regiment, could only order a breakthrough.

However, the South Koreans dug a sinkhole for the U.S. Army. They fled so fast that the two wings lost protection when the U.S. Army retreated (U.S. Army: MMP). The U.S. Army retreated in the order of the 2nd Battalion, the 1st Battalion, and the 3rd Battalion. , The 3rd Battalion ran at the back and was surrounded by our army.

The quality of the best American ace army is still good. The 3rd Battalion then stood in a circular position and waited for rescue. The 5th Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division of the United States wanted to come to the rescue but was repelled several times.

After that, the 39th Army launched two consecutive night offensives. By the evening of November 3, all except a few US troops surrendered, the 3rd Battalion was annihilated, and the serial numbers were canceled.

In this battle, 1,800 U.S. troops were wiped out, 28 tanks, 190 artillery pieces, 4 aircraft, 170 cars were destroyed and seized, and a battalion of the U.S. Ace Division was wiped out. The case was incorporated into the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force “Introduction to the Theory of Operations”. The results of the battle deeply shocked the Americans.

Until 2005, Rumsfeld, the most arrogant US Secretary of Defense in history, followed George W. Bush during his visit to China and also named him to visit the 39th Army. It is hard to forget the shame of the year.

Before that, the U.S. military thought that the Chinese army was vulnerable, but when they met the volunteers, they saw a group of soldiers with old World War II weapons. They were extremely disciplined to complete the interspersed encirclement of the mountains and plains, and charged forward one after another, enduring hunger and cold. The ground leaned on its feet in the dark, used the night to get close to the position, accurately inserted into the weak area of the defense line at an incredible speed, and sometimes rushed in continuously regardless of the casualties, and all actions were only carried out by bugles and guards. Tones and gongs are directed.

The Americans have never seen such an army. Our soldiers will jump onto the tank with explosives, or directly fire grenades. They are so horrified that they forget to shoot and watch the tanks. Was blown up.

This is a group of people who are not afraid of death. This is a group of people who are willing to give up their lives for the country.

If only talking about equipment, the 39th Volunteer Army is almost no era in front of the US Cavalry First Division, but the American Ace Division was defeated in the first battle.

Because the U.S. military only possesses advanced weapons made of steel, while Chinese soldiers have a will like steel.

Five

Just when the 39th Army launched the Battle of Yunshan, on the evening of November 1, the 40th Army assaulted Yongbyon, encountering the main force of the 1st South Korean Division in Shangjiudong, Guchengdong, and Mosidong, and the 66th Army advanced to Guicheng , The 50th Army crossed Anton at night, while the 38th Army occupied the stadium and the courtyard area. The South Korean Army played their usual good style. Seeing the volunteers turned around, they ran and ran all the way to their lives, unable to catch up.

The Volunteers’ offensive was too fierce, and the “United Nations” forces were deeply disturbed. Starting from November 3, the Western Front retreated to the south of the Qingchuan River, and the Eastern Front retreated to the front line of Huangcaoling. MacArthur threatened that the plan to occupy all of North Korea had failed before Thanksgiving.

It’s a pity that we don’t have a powerful mechanized force for pursuit.

On November 4, President Peng called Mao Zedong and proposed to rest and reorganize the troops, which ended the first battle.

The United States suffered some losses in the first battle, but the overall loss was not large. MacArthur was preparing to launch a “final offensive.” On November 9th, the US National Security Council approved MacArthur’s plan. After two weeks of bombing, the bridges on the Yalu River, the towns, railways, and bridges north of the Qingchuan River were all blown into rubble, cutting off the supply of personnel and materials for the Chinese army.

In addition, other troops of the “United Nations Army” were transferred. A total of 5 armies, 13 divisions, 3 brigades, and an airborne regiment were assembled on the front line, with a total of 220,000 people, as well as 1,200 aircraft and 900 tanks.

President Peng asked all troops to deliberately retreat, discard worn-out firearms to show weakness, and prepare to “entice the enemy to go deeper and destroy them all.”

At this time, our army has 9 armies and 30 divisions in North Korea with 380,000 people. We plan to concentrate 6 armies on the western front to lure the enemy to Daguandong, Onjing, Miaoxiangshan, and Pingnan town for annihilation. The three armies of the Corps were guarded, luring the enemy to Jiujinli and Changjin for annihilation.

On November 6th, the “United Nations Army” tentatively attacked the Volunteers. The Volunteers deliberately abandoned their frontline positions. The “United Nations Army” was beaten once. They did not dare to be careless and proceeded cautiously. The Volunteers thought they were advancing too slowly and gave up blocking the direct northward withdrawal. The “United Nations Army” thought that the volunteers were really timid, and accelerated their march. By the 21st, the western line reached Jiashan and Ningyuan lines, and the eastern line reached the Changjin Lake area.

The main forces of our army have also assembled on the two fronts. On the 25th, the Volunteer Army plans to launch a second battle.

The famous battle of Changjin Lake took place here.

But at this time, the “United Nations Army” did not know the true intentions of the Volunteers. They even thought that the Volunteers would not fight for a long time in North Korea. They came to North Korea only to dismantle the equipment of the Yalu River Hydropower Station, and a large number of airstrikes have forced Chinese support troops to not enter the battlefield. —–This is a huge illusion. Our army relied on its strong anti-reconnaissance capabilities. From mid-October to mid-November, through the day and night, nine armies were successively invested in the Korean Peninsula. The “United Nations Army” air reconnaissance did not find it.

That’s why the “United Nations Army” set up a FLAG: Let the children go home before Christmas.

On the evening of November 25th, the Allied Forces just finished Thanksgiving, and the battle of the Western Front began.

It was also at 11 a.m. that day. Mao Anying and Gao Ruixin, who were serving as translators and confidential secretaries at the command headquarters, were processing the issued combat telegrams. They were killed by gasoline bombs dropped by U.S. bombers. At that time, there were only a few high-level commanders. The officer knew his true identity, and his remains were buried in the headquarters of the Volunteer Army.

The battle lasted a total of one month.

On the western front, the 40th Army attacked the US 2nd Division, the 39th Army attacked the US 25th Division, the 66th Army attacked the US 24th Division, and the 50th Army attacked the British 27th Brigade and the US 1st Army.

The troops on the western front launched a fierce encirclement and annihilation of the enemy on the banks of the Qingchuan River. The “United Nations Army” was unable to withstand our mobile warfare and began to retreat on its own initiative.

Among them, the most commendable record was the battle that broke the back of the US military.

In order to stop the enemy, the 113th Division of the 38th Army ran a long-distance attack on the three camps. The whole division braved the severe cold, starvation, and US plane bombers. It ran 72 kilometers to the three camps on two legs for 14 hours, cutting off the US army’s south escape route in advance. , The 2nd Division, 25th Division, and 1st Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army made dumplings with a total of 50,000 people.

The 113th Division repelled 10 US offensives, of which the 3rd Company of the 335th Regiment held its position at Songgufeng in the third station, and only 6 wounded people survived in the whole company.

The U.S. Army saw that the 113th Division was too fierce to hold three li, so they ran to the side road Longyuanli.

The 113th Division decisively divided the troops into Longyuanli and blocked the escape of the United States. The commander of the US Eighth Army, Walker, constantly revised the order. During the retreat, due to panic, the jeep collided with a South Korean army vehicle and fell to his death in a ditch. (Walker: MMP), Walker has also become the most useless senior commander of the US military.

Walker: The South Korean Army misunderstood me!

Seeing that the U.S. military had no hope of breaking through from Sansho-ri and Longyuan-ri, it had to throw a large amount of heavy equipment to break through from Anju. Our roundabout troops did not come to Suncheon and Sucheon, and the U.S. military escaped from this road back to Pyongyang. Was wiped out.

Because of the exceptionally outstanding performance of the 38th Army, President Peng deliberately added: “Long live the 38th Army” in the award order afterward. From then on, the 38th Army was also called the Long Live Army.

A very interesting thing happened in this battle. The 116th Division of the 39th Army encountered the black company of the 24th Regiment of the U.S. 25th Division while advancing. The black guys were not firm in their will, and all companies were captured. , Must be mixed in black and white.

The black officers and soldiers captured by the volunteer army, the black buddies laughed innocently

Volunteers have fought down this route, and the world’s best-equipped US military has constantly revised the rules. This is called no pain no gain.

The 39th Army chased all the way south, pushing Americans and South Koreans to run around, and regained Pyongyang on December 6.

The battle on the Western Front wiped out the 7th and 8th Divisions of the South Korean 2nd Army and most of the Turkish brigade and dealt a devastating blow to the US 2nd Division. It wiped out 23,000 enemies, more than 100 tanks, and 2,000 vehicles. It also killed a commander of the opponent, causing our army to directly press near the 38th line.

Six

In the next two sections, we will focus on the Eastern Front of the second battle, especially the battle at Changjin Lake.

The start of the Eastern Route is November 27, two days later than the Western Route.

Our troops on the eastern front are the newly entered Korean 20th Army, 26th Army, and 27th Army, while the main opponent is the 1st Division of the US Marine Corps.

The US 1st Cavalry Division described earlier belongs to the Army, and this Marine Corps belongs to the Navy. If the 1st Cavalry Division belongs to the trump card, the 1st Marine Corps Division is the trump card among the trump cards.

This unit has jurisdiction over the First, Fifth, and Seventh Marine Regiments, as well as the Eleventh Artillery Regiment, including armored reconnaissance battalions, tank battalions, and amphibious assault battalions, with a total number of about 19,000.

They participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal, the Battle of Peleliu, and the Battle of Okinawa in World War II. They have received five presidential commendations. They have the best equipment in the United States and have strict military discipline. They are known as the elite of the United States.

Americans believe that no one in this world is qualified to be an opponent of this team.

Until they reached Changjin Lake in North Korea, they faced the 20th and 27th Corps of the Volunteers.

Then there was it again.

In mid-November, the U.S. Marine Corps 1st Division, with more than 30,000 soldiers from the 7th U.S. Infantry Division, was advancing along the highway from the Xianxing River to the Jiangjie. More than 200 tanks and thousands of vehicles marched along the only mountain road by Changjin Lake. The troop stretched to 100 kilometers long, creating favorable conditions for the volunteers to wipe out the enemy.

On the evening of the 27th, the 20th Corps and 27th Corps of the 9th Corps of the Volunteer Army, which had been ambushing on the east and west mountains, suddenly attacked the US army with the strength of 8 divisions.

The two armies were originally the second echelon of the Volunteer Army. They were preparing to enter the battlefield next spring. As a result, the war was urgent. They received the notification to enter the DPRK on the train bound for the northeast. Without a hat, I wrapped my head in a towel and wrapped my body in a blanket, and braved the freezing temperature of minus 30 degrees to hide in the dense forests of the Gaema Plateau in eastern North Korea.

After entering North Korea, the team still carried out the tactics of sneaking at night and resting during the day. About 100,000 people of the two armies quietly approached Changjin Lake. The 79 division of the 27th Army even made 18 consecutive days in the mountains without supplies. Marching on foot, the record of walking 30 kilometers a day, but the American plane has never noticed it.

Strict military discipline has created favorable conditions for us to fight this ambush. We replaced them with other troops and were bombed by the US Air Force before entering the ambush area. It was not our turn to ambush the US military.

Our soldiers were very cold in the snow. Zou Shiyong, the deputy instructor of the 3rd company of the 235th Regiment of the 79th Division of the 27th Army who participated in the ambush, recalled that our shoes were all rubber shoes. I only have a small quilt. The weather is so cold. When the potatoes are cooked, they become icy bumps and cannot be eaten. However, the soldiers are hungry, so they are caught under the armpits, melted, and gnawed a bit. Make another layer, and nibble a little…

Fortunately, our rush and waiting were worth it. The 1st Marine Corps, the ace of the enemy’s trump card, casually got into the pocket.

The soldiers are all suffocated, just waiting for you to come in and cook.

After launching the offensive, the US Army was quickly divided into several sections. The 1st and 7th US Marine Divisions were surrounded in six areas, Xiajieyuli, Liutanli, Xinxingli, Liutanli, Zhenxinli, and Gutuli. The U.S. army has rich experience in fighting, and immediately used more than 200 tanks to form a circular defense (local tyrants) at the three main surrounding points, and quickly built temporary airfields, transported war-wounded and frostbitten personnel, and continued to transport ammunition, Warm equipment.

One of the characteristics of the 1st Marine Corps Division is that it is particularly good at repairing temporary airfields. When attacking the Japanese on Guadalcanal, there were scenes where the front line opened fire and the airport was busy repairing the airfield. The Japanese bombed the airport and the Americans repaired it. Japan People bombed again, and Americans repaired it. This airport later became the key to victory in the Battle of Guadalcanal.

Because the United States has strong industrial productivity, they can obtain a large number of supplies through the airport, which is a condition of combat readiness that we cannot obtain at all.

The commander of the 1st Marine Division was named Smith. This man acted extremely cautiously. Whenever he saw a bridge destroyed when he moved north, he asked the Air Force to prefabricate the bridge. If there was a huge danger ahead, he would ask for a temporary airport to be built nearby.

Only the U.S. military in the world can play this way, and only the productivity of the U.S. at that time can match this style of play.

After being surrounded by the 9th Corps this time, the 1st Marine Division quickly repaired another airfield in Xiajieyu. The 58th Division of the 20th Army kept bombing, and the U.S. Army kept on repairing it. While driving the bulldozer, it fired at the same time. The normal operation of the airport was ensured. Finally, more than 4,000 wounded were evacuated from this airport and a large number of supplies were brought in.

As an ace army, the 1st Marine Division did not fall into a panic after being divided, relying on the defensive formation to exchange fire with our army, causing a lot of damage to us.

But the squads of the 20th Army and the 27th Army of my 9th Corps were originally from the First and Nine Columns. The commander of the First Column was called Ye Fei, and the commander of the Ninth Column was called Xu Shiyou. They were also the iron army that grew up in the fierce battle. The U.S. Army breaks through.

On the evening of the 29th, the 1st Marine Division launched an attack on Xiaokaolin. The 172 Regiment repelled the 1st Marine Division with 3 consecutive attacks 8 times. In the end, when only three men were left in the entire company, more than 40 American troops climbed to the top of the mountain. The company commander Yang Gensi rushed over with the last dynamite bag to die with the US army and defended the position with his own life.

Yang Gensi

Rivers, a veteran of the First Marine Division who participated in the Battle of Changjin Lake, later recalled: They (the Volunteers) had no shoes or socks. Many people only wore single shoes. Some people had rags wrapped in their feet, and their feet were frozen. , Swollen and dark, it’s hard to believe that those people can walk, let alone attack the position… I think this battle cannot be won…

The 27th Army, which had been unable to attack for a long time, saw that the 1st Marine Division was very good at fighting. It decided to pick the soft burrito first. On the night of November 30, it concentrated its efforts and almost wiped out the 31st Reinforced Regiment of the 7th Division of Xinxingli, the “Polar Bear”. The regiment, which captured 300 people, was also the only case in the history of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea to form a regiment to annihilate the US military.

Seeing that the polar bear regiment was annihilated and the “United Nations Army” on the western front began to retreat across the board, the “United Nations Army” on the eastern front began to waver and began to retreat.

Under the cover of a large number of aircraft and tanks, the 1st and 7th Divisions of the US Marines discarded their equipment and began to flee to Xia Jieyu. The 59th Division of the 20th Army blocked the U.S. Army on the high ground of the Dead Eagle Ridge, and the 27th Army troops followed and pursued, occupying the east and west sides of the road. The high ground flanked the US forces, and the US Army 1st Division could only retreat 5-6 kilometers a day. Later on December 3, it relied on more than 50 aircraft and tank groups to forcibly attack the Dead Eagle Ridge and Xixingli positions. The U.S. Army came to meet up from the upper and lower Jieyu, and the 59th Division was attacked by the enemy before it was breached by the U.S. Army and fled to Xia Jieyu.

Because the weather was too cold, the 26th Army, which took over the mission of the 20th Army, did not arrive in time. The U.S. Army continued to break through southward. On December 7th, the 26th Army chased down to Xiajieyu-ri and launched an attack on the remnant of the 1st US Marine Division. The 20th Army Relying on the occupied positions, we continued to ambush the fleeing enemy troops in the south. However, due to the extreme fatigue of the soldiers, coupled with the extreme cold and starvation, the frostbite attrition reached 40%, and the combat effectiveness of our army was greatly reduced. By July 14, under the cover of more than 40 aircrafts The U.S. Army fled to Gutu. The Volunteer Army 26 and 27 continued to chase the U.S. Army. The U.S. Army fled to Xingnan Port in one go. On the 24th, 300 naval vessels were evacuated to Busan. Our army recovered Wonsan Port. In Xingnan area, the second battle ended here.

The Volunteer Army wiped out more than 36,000 enemies on the east and west fronts, of which 24,000 were from the U.S. Army.

The U.S. soldiers who thought they were going home for Christmas were beaten back to the south of the 38th parallel.

The failure to kill all the elites of the U.S. military in Changjin Lake has a lot to do with our backward industrial productivity and severe cold weather.

Changjin Lake has an average altitude of 1,300 meters. The weather was another severe cold that had not been seen in 50 years, reaching minus 30 degrees. 90% of the 26th Army suffered frostbite, the 27th Army suffered more than 10,000 combat losses, and the 20th Army suffered frostbite. The downsizing reached 40%, and the non-combat loss of the entire 9th Corps exceeded 20,000.

Even the 1st Marine Division of the US had 4,414 attritions, but the main non-combat attritions due to frostbite reached 7,313.

In order to fight for time, 150,000 troops of the Ninth Corps quickly entered the eastern battlefield, far exceeding the expectations of the U.S. Army. The 58th, 59th, 89th Divisions, and 27th Army of the 20th Army did not stop to replenish cotton uniforms in the northeast, so they went to the battlefield wearing thin cotton clothes.

There was heavy snowfall on November 27, and the temperature dropped to minus 30 degrees. When the 20th Army and the 27th Army entered the ambush for 80,000 people, they were already shivering with cold.

When the US army broke through, the 5th company of the 242 regiments set an ambush on the way. The soldiers were lying in the middle of the night at minus 30 degrees.

When the US army broke through to high ground in Death Eagle Ridge, it was found that a company of the 59th Division of the 20th Army was also lying on the high ground and all frozen to death. After death, the soldiers remained in a crawling posture, holding old-fashioned rifles, facing the road below the mountain.

On December 9, when the American troops fleeing south rushed to high ground in Huangcaoling, they found another company of the volunteers that had been frozen to death.

Our soldiers arrived on the battlefield on time and did not leave until they died.

Faced with such a stubborn and brave army, how can the US military not be shocked?

In his memoirs, Colonel Bowser, Director of the Operations Division of the 1st Marine Division, said that fortunately, the Chinese did not have sufficient logistical support and communication equipment, otherwise the 1st Marine Division would never flee the Changjin Lake.

We are not only affected by the weather, but the huge industrialization gap has also brought us great harm.

At the southern end of the Gaema Plateau, there is a place where the US troops must pass through the retreat, called the Water Gate Bridge.

We have long realized the importance of this pass. On December 1st, we sent a reconnaissance team to rush over and blow up the bridge deck with explosives.

According to the experience of ordinary engineers, it took ten and a half months for the bridge to be repaired. As a result, the US Engineer Battalion brought a bunch of equipment and was repaired in one day.

Fortunately, our soldiers were not far away, and we were still observing from a distance. On the night of December 4th, we took advantage of the wind and snow to touch them and broke the bridge again.

However, the people in the US Army Engineer Battalion used only the remaining roots and steel materials of the original bridge to repair the bridge in one day and sent 40 tanks to defend the bridge.

On the night of December 6th, more than 100 Chinese volunteers decided to fight. They faced the enemy’s fierce fire from multiple directions, wearing cotton jackets and carrying explosives, and rushed to the bridge. There is no record of how they broke through 40 vehicles. The defense of the tanks, but in the end, they succeeded in blowing up the Water Gate Bridge and the base.

Seeing that the U.S. military has no way to escape, the most elite of the U.S. military will be eliminated here. As a result, the Americans have customized a special landing site and 8 sets of steel components from Japan, and airdropped 6 sets of 1.1-ton rut bridge components to the U.S. military position. After days, the US military built a new steel bridge between the two cliffs.

The continuous explosion of the Watergate Bridge has shown us the terrible status of the country’s industrial backwardness. We can repel the enemy with the spirit of the fear of death, but it is difficult to destroy the enemy in the face of chasm-like industrial technology.

In the second battle, we won, but the U.S. army gradually understood the strengths and weaknesses of the volunteers. Knowing the characteristics of our seven-day offensive, we also shifted from mobile warfare to positional defense, and the two sides fell into a stalemate on the 38th parallel. state.

It was not until 1953 that the armistice agreement was signed.

Eight

The Korean War deeply affected the historical process of China and the world.

In the world back then, no country dared to face the most advanced U.S. military, even the Soviet Union dared not clash head-on with the U.S. military, but our extremely poor and weak agricultural country actually repelled the U.S. military to the 38th parallel on the Korean Peninsula. South, this victory won the respect of the Soviet Union. Stalin looked at China with admiration and deepened his trust in us. He gave us assistance for 156 industrial projects and laid the foundation for China’s industrial development.

In fact, the Soviet Union at that time really respected China. It was not that they only wanted to give 156 projects, but that all the intellectuals in China at that time could only accept these 156 projects. If we had more well-educated scholars, Stalin is willing to give more.

Therefore, we often say that the resistance to US aggression and aid to Korea is a battle to build a country, and dignity is created by ourselves, not by others for charity!

Many years later, when the United States launched the Vietnam War, China warned the United States that if the US military crossed the 17th parallel, we would go to Vietnam again in the form of a volunteer army and fight another Korean War with the United States.

The United States, which was wounded in North Korea, did not dare to leapfrog one step further this time.

Nine

Hollywood, which is particularly fond of making war movies, rarely makes movies about the Korean War.

It was a past they didn’t want to recall, a record that the U.S. military could not achieve.

After all, facing a poor and white country, a group of soldiers wearing thin cotton-padded clothes, rags on their feet, and eating frozen potatoes and fried noodles at minus 30 degrees, they actually lost.

What kind of spirit is it that supports this great nation and can defeat the almost invincible American elite?

The last words were written by a soldier who froze to death before his death may let us know why.

He wrote:

I love my relatives and my country, and I love my honor even more. I am a glorious volunteer soldier, ice and snow! I will never succumb to you, even if it freezes to death, I will stand proudly on my ground!

Would you rather deploy a 100,000-ton Ford-class that cannot be combated than to develop a new 40,000-ton aircraft carrier?

Translated from the Headlines (Toutiao 头条新闻)

Author: Xiongnu Langshan(匈奴狼山)

Hanhai Langshan and Xiongnu Langshan have to say, perhaps there is nothing in this world faster than the passage of time. Because the superpower navy announced that the Ford, the first ship of the Ford-class aircraft carrier, entered active service, it seems to be yesterday, but in fact, almost five years have passed. And the dignified giant Ford aircraft carrier, which is over 100,000 tons, still stays in the Newport News shipyard’s outfitting wharf for a long time immobile. Perhaps the superpower navy itself felt that such a big guy could not really be used for 5 years after announcing his service. It was too unreasonable, so it announced again that the Ford aircraft carrier would be truly incorporated into the active fleet for sea duty next year. But the additional sentence afterward gave the Ford fans around the world a pot of cold water. That is to say, even if the Ford is finally incorporated into the fleet, it will not directly assume actual combat missions. It is equivalent to a display of over 100,000 tons placed there. This is exactly like the rhetoric that used to be used in the northern rural areas seven or eighty years ago, called: stand in front of the stupid man, don’t work, and look good!

And the Ford, which will be incorporated into the fleet next year, is precisely the world’s largest stupid man today! Because so far, there has not been any other single military machine with a tonnage of more than 103,000 tons. In terms of size and size, it is indeed the absolute world number one in the global single weapon system. But this big guy will not be able to take on actual combat tasks until next year. It is purely there for the outside world to see. So why can’t it be used in service after 5 years of service? In fact, the outside world is basically aware of this. But the superpower navy dare not admit this cruel reality. Speaking of the problems of the Ford-class, it is always said that there are always problems with the 7 ammunition elevators in pure electromagnetic mode. In the past few years, it was said that it was not installed in place, but now it is said that it is not easy to use after installation. But the 7 ammunition elevators are essentially just 7 elevators for cargo. If it is really because these 7 elevators cannot be used, the entire Ford-class aircraft carrier cannot enter active service. In the past, one of them was replaced every year, and finally, it took 7 years to replace it.

The superpower navy always talks about the seven ammunition upgrades on the Ford-class aircraft carrier, but it is actually consciously “taking the left and right for him.” Take the not-so-big problems in the secondary system to find reasons. This phenomenon is actually very common in daily contract labor projects. For example, if a contracting team wants to pay, it will definitely leave some non-critical, but must be completed, process tails deliberately not completed, so as to ask the owner for the project payment. For example, deliberately let the water and electricity not be in place, install a few light bulbs, and so on. Once the engineering funds are in place, the remaining small details can be completely installed in a night assault. The current problem with the Ford is equivalent to using a few light bulbs (ammunition elevators) for a long time. But the special thing about the Ford is that other projects are paid in place, and then all the systems are completely completed. However, even if Ford doubles the engineering model, the major technical obstacles that cannot be solved on the aircraft carrier still cannot be solved. That is, although the methods of delaying the construction period seem to be similar, the final result is very different.

The superpower navy may feel embarrassed that after a few years, still use a few electromagnetic elevators to continue to polish foreign workers. So the Ford can only be completely kicked out of the house; let it report to the Navy Pier instead of continuing to mess around in the shipyard. After all, if you continue to mix things up, budget managers are not happy anymore. After all, the problems on the Ford, including all the technical obstacles on the Ford-class under construction, have not been overcome so far. This is not even the problem of the superpower’s navy, but a common problem within all of the superpower’s military-industrial systems 40 years after the de-industrialization of the superpower as a whole. At present, not only is it difficult to produce super aircraft carriers and super nuclear submarines but also the future 6th-generation aircraft of its air force are not eye-catching. This is what Langshan has repeatedly emphasized in the past. At present, the superpower no longer has the strength in technology and engineering management and then organizes the development and production of any large and systematic military projects. If you still don’t believe this, you can think about the superpowers in the past 20 years, what brand-new, global, and new big projects have been unveiled?

To be honest, there is no such new project! All active systems are based on the R&D and manufacturing capabilities of the Cold War era. Taking a step back, even if you don’t develop a new system, just re-engrave the technology of B2 or Saturn 5, you can’t complete it! This is especially true in the construction of aircraft carriers. Needless to say, the final completion of all Ford grades, even if it were to reproduce the steam catapult version of the Nimitz grade or even the Kitty Hawk grade, would not be possible. Because even the production line for high-pressure boilers no longer exists. Someone once suggested that the superpower navy should stop blindly launching giant aircraft carriers in the future, but mass-produce 40,000-ton-class 30-knot, gas-turbine-driven medium-sized aircraft carriers, equipped with F35B to solve the problem, instead of using the slow Wasp-class. The two attacked with the American aircraft to force a cameo on the medium-sized aircraft carrier. The superpower navy knows that this kind of proposal is the most feasible and the easiest to achieve and continues to maintain the best plan for actual combat capabilities, but it will never follow it! Just because in the future there will be another big country equipped with 100,000-ton or even larger electromagnetic ejection large plates. Under this major premise, no matter how many new 40,000-ton aircraft carriers are built, it is only a shame!
